Get the Kids Outside grew from our family’s love of adventure and exploration outdoors.
When things aren’t going smoothly at home, we often turn to each other and simply say, “We need to get the kids outside!” Our two very active boys are their best selves when in nature, and we love seeing their frustration, anger and bad moods just melt away once active outdoors.
As a family, we love mountain biking (cross-country and downhill), hiking, walks in the woods, biking and playing pooh sticks. We’re becoming skiers, we enjoy camping, we’re aspirational geocachers, and we’re learning more about photography. We play soccer and backyard football, and are always up for an occasional game of sock attack.
And have I mentioned biking? It’s a staple for us, and we’re so grateful to have this shared passion. We’ve gone from tricycles to single tracks, backyards to bike parks and there is no end in sight!
I love our adventures — both big and small — and hope to inspire you to have more of your own. There’s nothing quite as invigorating as exploring nature with children. We can learn a lot from their awe and curiosity!
It is so clear how important and beneficial it is for kids to spend time outdoors. All children need the freedom to play and explore while interacting with their environment.
So join me, get the kids outside, and let’s share in their energy and wonder.
